Taiko Drum Workshop - Eric Paton of Hiuchi Taiko

Eric Paton will be conducting an advanced workshop in Taiko. In 1994, Eric Paton composed Ikari no Kaminari (Rage of thunder) as the overture for a commission by Ballet Metropolitan. Having spent 15 years of his childhood in Japan, Paton drew as inspiration the legend of Raijin - Kaminari Sama, the thunder god, to compose this work premiered by 20 students, 7 to 17 years of age, at the Ohio Theater. With his interest in Japanese music rekindled, in 1995 he began to present taiko at fesivals and in schools through the Greater Columbus Arts Council's Artists-in-Schools Program.
